So, today I asked the tough question. I didn't want to, but I needed to. You know that I have been upbeat and positive, but I also want to be well informed and plan my life accordingly. I asked Dr. Kulke what my life expectancy was now that I have this carcinoid cancer. Before he answered, I told him that whatever he told me, I would beat it. I have a 4 year old who needs me!
So he said that statistically, people with carcinoid at the stage that I have it live 5 to 9 years.
Well as you can imagine that was not what I wanted to hear. He then went on to say that 50% of people live less than 9 years and that 50% of people live more than 9 years. I do plan on beating that! As you can imagine it has been quite an emotional day. However, after talking to many of my "cheerleaders" I feel a lot better. I do believe that I can live a lot longer than what is predicted for me. AND I WILL !!!!!!!
I know that the prayers that everyone is saying for me help tremendously, in many, many ways. I asked that you continue to keep me in your prayers. That would mean a great deal to me.
I have a beautiful little girl tugging at my arm, waiting to hear her bedtime story. So I will tell you about the rest of my visit tomorrow.
Much thanks and love, Theresa

Theresa - Since you didn't make it to the 20 year BHS reunion - I plan on seeing you at our 50th. Stay positive and all of us will keep the positive energy flowing your way.

Theresa- I want you to know, not only did I look up to you as a child...I still do & am humbled by your strength & perseverance. You must take after Grandma Morris:) You have endured so much hardship in your life, and always came out on top. I have no doubt that this difficult time will be no different. I am so proud to call you my sister & feel extremely blessed! If you lived through all the hell I have given you throughout the years...you can overcome anything!! I love you more than you know, and am here for you if you ever need to talk. Someone recently asked me if I could possible be silent for a couple minutes & I died laughing...but yes I can & am here to listen anytime. Stay positive!!!
ReplyDeleteI *know* you'll beat those odds because you have the right attitude, so much to live for (especially Kaeli) and you have the best doctors in the world. I'm sure that most of the people that help make up those average life expectancy statistics didn't have all 3 of those things working in their favor. Plus, treatment improves with each passing year.
ReplyDeleteStay strong.
Mike
Theresa,
ReplyDeleteYou asked the question because you can handle the answer and have the ability to do something about it. Nobody knows these answers except God. Many miracles have happened and will continue to happen. Make sure you take the time you need to heal and do the things you have control over. You are wonderful, keep smiling and always bring out that positive attitude!
Love ya!

ReplyDeleteI have NO DOUBT that you WILL beat this!!
You are strong and determined and that is a great combination. Keep smiling, stay positive and surround yourself with laughter...it is the greatest medicine.

Corbo,
ReplyDeleteHere is one of the affirmations that we have talked about from that book - I'm saying it for you (I just change the "I" to your name). For now, I'm going to post it here so everyone can say it for you, too. "Miracles happen every day. I go within to dissolve the pattern that created this, and I now accept a Divine healing. And so it is!"
And Pete is right! We'll all see each other at the 50th class reunion.
Talk to you soon,
Clara

Hi Theresa,
ReplyDeleteI was diagnosed with a carcinoid in late November 2008 at the age of 29... so I understand what you are going through. Have you joined the carcinoid boards on Yahoo? If you do you will see that there are people on there who have lived with this for 20 or even 30 years. You should join - it might give you more hope. I know it has me : )
Take care,
Jillian
